Friday Dec 5th is the 75th anniversey of the ratification of the 21st amendment that repealed prohibition.
Cheers.

I believe it was determined that the Schwarzbier keg is broken. Many taps were tried and none would allow the sweet nectar to flow.

Did you get my RSVP to the party?

I hope all of you will attend the FOAM Holiday party Friday December 12. If so, please RSVP so I can get a count for dinner. Read the article on the home page, download the flyer and RSVP to me via E-mail. Did we ever find a tap for the Schwarzbier, or will we be using a plasma torch to drink it at the party?

Finally recovered from Thanksgiving fullness and got busy brewing and IPA. Great to be brewing a good session beer.

I let mine set at ~30psi at room temp for 2 or 3 days and that seems to do the trick for me. Sometimes I will shake the keg a bit if I'm impatient.
bullet DEF on Saturday 29 November 2008 - 07:18:39PM
Thanks, Dave. Tomorrow will be one week sitting at pressure. I was hoping it would be ready for Thanksgiving, but it was still pretty flat. Haven't tried it since then. (The faucet worked great, though.)
bullet Dave on Saturday 29 November 2008 - 05:42:00PM
Doug, Just give your beer time in the cold under pressure. You know it's going to improve for two months in the keg anyway. If you are trying force carbonate today and drink tomorrow, that just means that you need to brew more often.
bullet DEF on Saturday 29 November 2008 - 01:01:35PM
I'm building a keg agitation rig based on the "spring riding horse" design -- 18 lb springs on all 4 corners. I'll build it low to the ground and just bounce it with my foot. Homebrewing makes you handy.

Brewing a Glacial Pale Ale today. Gonna split the batch and oak half of it. First time this season. Hope The Back holds up!! First time I have been out of beer since 1996!! All of it is going in the Keg. Need drink'n stash!!

Has anyone of you ever had a pumpkin pie made from scratch? It is the bomb. My wife has got it going on with her pumpkin pie!
bullet Alpha Male on Thursday 27 November 2008 - 07:51:23PM
Aahhhh, what a great Thanksgiving Day! My God! What an immense amount of food, beer, wine desserts, the whole shebang. Had 17 people here, ages 5 months to 85 years old. A really super day! I hope everyone had as good a holiday as I did.
bullet arrogantbastard on Thursday 27 November 2008 - 07:01:46AM
Thinking about boiling up a thick water/sugar mix one maybe two additions. Theory is to make the yeast work on maltose before adding simple sugars, kinda like bringing out the turkey first then mid leg show up with the punkin pie- gotta go need to throw some tea in the harbour
bullet Alpha Male on Wednesday 26 November 2008 - 11:52:18PM
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Enjoy your families. If you don't have a place to go for the holidays, my door is always open. I'll be having a bounty of food and family at 1:00 Thursday afternoon, so call me, PM, or email me if you'd like to come out.

AB, how are you going to add sugar mid-fermentation? As a liquid like an invert sugar?
bullet arrogantbastard on Wednesday 26 November 2008 - 03:14:17PM

bullet arrogantbastard on Wednesday 26 November 2008 - 03:11:02PM
Messed up my last Belgian Golden Strong so its a do over - didnt dry out enough so I'm adding sugar mid fermentation this time
bullet DEF on Wednesday 26 November 2008 - 01:04:28PM
Good luck with that -- sounds good. No brewing for me -- got all my allowance in gear right now. I'll be bottling my H.G. Betsy's Brown from Teach A Friend Day. Got several 22 and 16 oz empties waiting.
bullet Shelly on Wednesday 26 November 2008 - 11:56:55AM
so who's brewing this long holiday weekend? think I going to try a party-gyle, I'm planning a bel. dark strong with the est OG of 1.127 (doubt I'll hit that), think a can squeze out a something on the remaining sugars
bullet DEF on Tuesday 25 November 2008 - 10:26:34PM
Thanks. The fridge somehow had dropped five degrees, so that probably had something to do with it. I'm keeping the system at 12 psi and 39-40 degrees. I'm going to move the gas tank to the outside before long.
bullet truckmann on Tuesday 25 November 2008 - 09:20:14PM
Thanks Beertracker! I will try to check as many of those out as I can.
bullet truckmann on Tuesday 25 November 2008 - 09:18:43PM
That sounds normal. Pressure is a function of temperature.
